How to use Onedate

1. Sign-up

a. Why should I sign up for Onedate?

Many users have already signed up for Onedate, and if you are looking for a nice meeting in your city or country or, if the distances are not that much of importance to you, you will always find a Onedate member who shares the same desire and wish for a successful meeting

b. How can I subscribe?

It is completely free to sign up for ONEDATE. While you create your profile, you will be asked to enter some essential personal data: birthdate, sex, region and province where you live and e-mail address. Remember that you cannot change your nickname once it is created. By signing up for the services of ONEDATE, you implicitly accept that some of your data is made public on the WebPages of the service. In particular, the following data that you entered while signing up will be shown in your profile: the code of your province, sex and age. Your e-mail address will not be made available, but it will be used to deliver editorial messages to you only. During the sign-up stages, you can complete your profile, describe the profile of the person you are seeking, add a photo of yours and write a brief presentation message. After completing the sign-up stage, your profile will be generated and shown on the site. Once you sign up, you can access the service by entering your Username and Password correctly.

c. Which characters can I in my Nickname?

You can only use alphanumeric characters. Your Nickname can consist of numbers and letters without accents. Remember: do not leave any spaces.

Sign-up details (the initial phase)
You must fill out the entire form correctly and enter a Nickname that is at least 6 characters long. This will be your alias and identify you uniquely every time you access the ONEDATE community. After entering your Nickname, you will have to enter a password (which you should never forget!) and your e-mail address. You will be asked to indicate your sex, whom you are looking for, your birthdate and the region you live in. After having accepted the privacy statement and terms of use, you can confirm your choices. Then, you can describe yourself more in detail by picking the characteristics that most match your personality and fill out the general description: i.e. hair color, interests, business, etc.

d. How can add one or more photos to complete my profile?

Onedate allows you to upload your most beautiful photos through the site's classic panel or the new MMS service as an alternative!
If you want to upload a photo from your computer, just click the "Upload photo" button and then select "The Web", browse for the file of your photo and click "Proceed": do not forget to save.
Otherwise, you can publish your latest shots by sending them directly from your mobile phone using the MMS service. But first you need to get a service code from the site, before you go ahead: click "Upload photo" button and then select "MMS". This way, you will receive an authentication code.
To upload your photos from your mobile phone, proceed as follows:
  • Create a new MMS (multimedia message);
  • Attach the photo which you want to publish to the message;
  • Insert the authentication code that you have received from the site to the subject line of the message;
  • Send your MMS to the following e-mail address: mms@onedate.net.
    * Regular MMS sending fee. Check with your operator.
The following are the characteristics of pictures to be uploaded:
To be able to publish a picture, we recommend you to shoot the picture from the front, preferably under good illumination. Minimum dimensions: 105 x 105 pixel. List of accepted formats: JPG, JPEG, GIF, but JPG and JPEG formats are to be preferred.
Our moderation groups take maximum 48 hours to approve pictures (excluding weekends). An e-mail will inform you that your announcement has been approved. We invite you to use a valid and working e-mail address when you sign up.

In order to upload photos from your computer during the sign-up process, click on the "Upload pictures" button, browse for the picture file and click on "Proceed".. To modify or delete a picture, click on "modify" on the "General Data" panel. You can set a picture as default, modify it or delete it.

e. What do you mean by "moderating photographs?"

In order to guarantee a high service quality, Onedate pays a lot of attention to publishing photos. Onedate reserves the right to refuse to publish a photograph that does not match the ethical standards of the site. Drawings or photos involving children, famous groups or persons protected by copyrights and vulgar pictures will be rejected immediately.

f. Why wasn’t my photo approved?

The administrator reserves the right to refuse publishing photos for the following reasons: pictures containing drawings, emoticons, smileys or the like, children and famous pictures, copyright protected photos, landscapes, works of art and objects. Vulgar pictures or those that incite violate, photos containing any kind of publicity whatsoever, including reference to other sites, e-mail addresses, photos with bad quality or hidden parts are strictly forbidden. Furthermore, excessively small or cut pictures with huge white areas are also not accepted.

g. The most frequent reasons why photographs get rejected:

  • it’s hard to identify you (group pictures, hidden face, picture taken from far etc)
  • pictures that are considered indecent, vulgar, obscene or those that incite violence, etc.
  • edited pictures in conflict with the policy (personal data, message added, etc.
  • pictures that do not represent you without doubt (drawings, animated drawings, photos of famous people, landscapes, portraits, any kind of publicity, etc.)
  • unintelligible photo (in order words, defective before sending it or damaged during the upload)

h. How can I publish my text message?

The text announcement is a free field that allows you to describe yourself and/or specify your search criteria. This text will be visible on your card and during research. It must contain no less than 50 and no more than 2000 characters.

i. Why didn’t my announcement get approved?

In order to guarantee a high service quality, Onedate pays a lot of attention to publishing text announcements. The administrator reserves the right to refuse publishing any announcement that does not match the ethical standards of the site. The main reasons why messages get refused are: communicating telephone numbers, e-mail addresses or web sites. Any kind of vulgar or offensive words against any ideology, religion, race are not accepted. Meaningless texts (such as "ahsuw6sm8xidod!" or "rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr" periods or dashes only (for instance "........") will also be removed.

The most frequent reasons why text announcements get refused:
  • personal information contained in the message, such as: e-mail address, a personal web page, telephone number, last name, etc.
  • announcements without messages (for instance "...")
  • announcements containing impolite terms or subjects
  • incomprehensible announcements (abbreviations, bad punctuation or grammar, SMS style, etc., commercial messages
  • phrases that do not respect our general conditions of use or the spirit of the service (for example, announcements not referring to a meeting).

2. Privacy & Policy

a. We protect the privacy of all our members.

We respect the norms in vigor regarding the protection of personal data and use the necessary sources to guarantee an enjoyable and protected environment. By signing up for the ONEDATE services, you accept that the following data entered during the sign-up process can be shown in your profile: your nickname, code of province, sex and age. Your e-mail address and telephone number will not be shown.

3. Interface

a. How can I navigate in the interface?

Navigation in the Onedate site has been simplified by some menus that are always present.

Messages:
to read, write and get in touch with members even if they are not on-line.
Search:
runs a precise research among the members (advanced research) based on a set of filter criteria.
My profile:
Under this menu, you can access your profile. Your personal information is shown on charts, which you can enter and edit.
My account:
This tool helps you access your personal information, check the status of your Onepass and use many e-mail services.
Chat:
this is an application that allows Onedate members to communicate with each other in real-time.
Contacts list:
you can add the members that you want to the friends list or to the black list (list of members who are not allowed to contact you).
My private area:
a very reserved area. It is a personal space where you can publish pictures, text, video and the most private details of your heart.

Statistics:
lets you show the last 120 records of the users who visited your page and sent you a "skid", invited you to chat and those who added you to their category of friends over the last 2 months maximum. You can also see in real time if a member is online at ONEDATE.
OneGadget:
It generates real time statistics on your desktop!
Download the oneGadget option, and keep track of visits, e-mails, chat invitations and flashes you receive while you are off-line: It is an ideal solution if you do not want to lose any contact

Installation procedure:
  • Download Gadget (onedate.gadget).
  • Double-click the file after download finishes.
  • Click the "Install" button.
The new Gadget will appear on your desktop in a short while!

Profile:
it is a set of information about you that the other members can see. You can change its content by clicking on "modify."

Online - Offline:
If you have purchased a Onepass including the Light option, you can choose who can contact you and when, simply by setting your status as "online" or "offline"!

Furthermore you can decide which members can see when you are Online even if your status is set to "Offline".


Logout / Quit:
lets you leave Onedate.

4. Personal profile

a. Why should I complete my profile profile?

The more complete your profile, the higher are your chances of being contacted. Your picture and text message are emphasized during the searches run by other members. An announcement with a picture allows you to receive 10 times as many messages! The more you complete your profile, the more the people who will want to get in touch with you when they see your profile.

b. How can I edit my profile?

If you want to change your profile, log into your account and select "my profile" or the "change" item in the box on the left of the bottom of the home page. You can change your pictures, text, extended description and your home address. Once you are done, confirm the changes you have made and wait for our staff to approve them. Remember that you cannot change your nickname.

c. How can I change my personal data and opt out of e-mail services provided by Onedate?

To make changes to your personal information, click "My account" followed by "Personal information". Now you can change your e-mail address (which your contacts cannot see), password and language. If you click "E-mail Services", you can also deactivate some of Onedate services. Remember to save your changes, when you finish.

If you want to change your password, click "My account" followed by "Personal Information."

e. My Onetest

It is extremely simple to create your personal Onetest!
Click "Change profile" and then "My test". Pick questions from the list of proposals. Your quiz must contain at least 5 questions for other members to take it, and you may add up to 20 questions.
If you find an interesting user, you can send them your personal Onetest by clicking SEND TEST.

5. Look and find

a. Look and find at Onedate...

You entered your sex (male or female) and the sex of the person you are seeking when you signed up. For example, if you are a woman seeking a man, you will only see men looking for women in your query results. Onedate offers you various types of diversified and complete research, a filter which allows for perfecting your research and you can also set the presentation format for query results out of three distinct default formats.
A thorough advanced search function which can be saved.
To seek profiles which most closely approximate to your Ideal Type, just launch the advanced search function by clicking "Create a new search" on the menu on the right: fill out all the criteria that best define your ideal profile, which you may want to save. Then give a name to your search and click "save and view".
Onedate allows you to save up to 10 advanced searches.

Zapping:
Since coincidences count a lot sometimes, you can find your soul mate by zapping through pictures.

Quick search:
You can choose one to three criteria for a quick search to find people who match your search criteria. You can filter by the following criteria: 1) region, 2) age range and 3) whether they have published a profile picture. Otherwise, you can seek a Nickname directly, if you want to find a person with whom you have already talked previously.
On the other hand, should you not remember a person's Nickname completely, when you are seeking them, you can use the "Search by keyword" function to get a list of profiles, which contain the word you enter.
You can run a quick search both from the "Search" page and Onedate Homepage: enter the criteria of your choice and click the "Search" button" to view matching profiles.
You can also use "One-click Search" to quickly retrieve a list of profiles that match your preset criteria. Here are some examples:
  • Living close to me: we propose profiles of people who live close to your home.
  • Born on the same day as me: you will have a common point to begin with!
  • It is their birthday today: why not wish them a happy birthday?
  • ...

InAffinity:
InAffinity is a new service for the ladies to find their soul mate quickly.
The affinity service shall help you find the person most in harmony with you based on your preferences. Fill out the fields and start your search now!

Do you want to chat using the Instantaneous Chat?
Access the list of people who are online by clicking "Online users". This will allow you to talk to those members immediately. As an alternative, tick the "online" box in your search.
A green icon next to their nickname of people on the list will show that they are logged on to Onedate at the same time as you.
f you want to see the newest Onedate members, click "Newest members".

How can I delete search results that I am not interested in? After you purchase the Light option, you can delete one or more search results from your queries.
To remove a profile, click the icon and follow the instructions.

I have accidentally deleted a profile from my search results. How can I restore it?

If you want to restore a user's profile that you have deleted accidentally, enter their profile and click "Include in search queries".

6. Visit users profiles

a. How can I visit the other users' profiles?

You can visit the other users' profiles by clicking their nickname or photo among your query results or lists.
You can find the following information in their profile:
  • Their general data: in other words, you can find out personal information (residence, marriage status, education, job, etc), you can read their message
  • Their personal data: like their physical description (physique, color of eyes, etc)
  • Their ideal partner: you can view their criteria of choice of an ideal man or woman
  • Their photos: You can enlarge their photos by clicking the photo and discover their faces.

In order to discover their universe, you will have to access their private zones. (guarda help-privè)
You can find out the last time they went on-line:
The status of the current connection of the member is shown next to their photo.
You can find out if they are:
  • Online: green indicator
  • Offline: grey indicator
From the profile of a member, you can do the following:
Send a skid or a message, run a compatibility check, add to friends, add to favorite, add to the black list and access their private zones. (look at the interactions with the user)
How can I be informed when a member visits my profile?
You can be informed by an e-mail in your mailbox when you are not logged onto the site or by an information message while you are navigating. Check the upper bar of the web page.

Furthermore, at the top of your homepage, you can check the new Visitors which shows the last person who visited your profile and click the "List" button to see all member profiles who have visited yours. (gLook at the statistics)

7. User interaction

a. How can I read the profiles of other members and get in touch with them?

Is that person connected to Onedate now? You can contact them by sending a message or a skid...
This person is connected to Onedate. You can do all the "off-line" operations, or contact them at the chat room.

d. How can I chat?

In order to start chatting with someone, invite them using the "Invite to chat" button that you can find on the profile page of a certain user (only if the user is online!). Once the chat window opens, click on the nickname of a person whom you want to chat with and start the conversation.

e. What is Videochat?

Videochat is an instant messaging system in which users can converse with one another directly using a webcam.
This way you can discover the person you are talking to and fall in love with their smile and the tone of their voice.

f. How does Onedate Videochat work?

If you want to live the Videochat experience as in a private video call, you need to get a webcam.
Once you install your webcam, all videochat/videoconferencing software will recognize it.
Make sure that your webcam and microphone work properly. Now you can start Videochatting:
  • Contact a user;
  • Click the button with the webcam icon on it. If it is green, it means that your contact’s webcam is active and you can invite that person to start a video conversation with you;
  • If your contact accepts your intivation, the video conversation can start.
You can have one video conversation at a time.

g. Why can I not start Videochatting?

OFFLINE Operations

i. Mail-box

Onedate messaging system works like any other messaging system, but you cannot attach files to the messages. There are two types of messages: among friends and with generic contacts.

Your mailbox organizes your messages according to these criteria:
Last 30 days:
Visualize conversations for the last 30 days.
Archive:
Visualize conversations made between 30 and 180 days ago in relation to today's date

The two criteria are also divided in "received messages", "unread messages" and "sent messages":
Incoming: It shows messages with sender, subject and date.
Inbox: Sent It lists messages sent in the last 30 days with the receiver’s name, subject and the date it was sent.
Not read It lists messages that have been received but not read yet.

Folder size:
The folder size is shown at the top of the page and informs you of the amount of incoming and outgoing mail that fill the space reserved for your mailbox. You need to delete messages to free up some space. We suggest you delete some messages, when 90% of the maximum capacity is full.
Delete:
If you want to delete a message, click on the box next to the message that you want to delete and hit the Delete icon.

How can I read messages?
In order to read a message, click on the subject of the message. This way, you can see its body. Make sure that you have not activated the pop-up block of your browser.

How can I compose a message?
Have you found an interesting profile and want to contact them? You need to click on "Write message" that you can find on the personal profile page of the user.

How can I know if my messages have been read?
If you purchase the Light option, you can request a read receipt for your e-mails: read receipt request pops up before you send a message, as shown in the sample picture below.



Then, if you want to check if your messages have been read, go to the "Sent messages" section and there you can find the list of your sent messages and the time they were read.



"Absence calendar" management (for users who have purchased the Light option only).
If you are leaving on a vacation, activate the absence calendar in your message center: click Absence Calendar and set the period when you will be out of town, and then save.
Members who send you a message during that period will be informed of your absence before they contact you.
The next time you connect to Onedate, a pop-up message will remind you to deactivate the calendar before accessing the site.
It is possible that you receive fewer messages than usual, while you are away.

l. Skid

Send them a skid to let them know that you like them without having to talk to them or invite them to chat (especially if you are shy!)
Warning, this operation cannot be undone: it is not possible to delete a skid once it is out.

You can send someone a skid by clicking the "Send a skid" button.

m. Calculate compatibility

Is she the perfect gal? Is he the right guy? Calculate your compatibility with the user you like by clicking the "Calculate compatibility" button and Onedate will calculate your compatibility based on the characteristics in your and their profiles. You can send the compatibility by clicking the "SEND" button.

8. Privè

a. What is a private area?

The private area is reserved area. It is a personal space where you can publish pictures, text, video and the most private details of your heart.
The private area is a very important tool for your activities at ONEDATE: it is the place where you can best describe yourself. The private area does not have any public pages: in order to reach the private area of another member, you must request their authorization. Likewise, those who want to view your private area must be authorized by you first

b. How can I view the private area of a user?

In order to access the private area of a user, click on the "request access to private area" button on the profile page of the user, provided that the user has compiled a private area page. The other user shall decide whether to grant you access or not.

c. How can I show my private area?

Only users authorized by you can access your private area. On your private are page, you can see the users who want to view your private are. You decide whether you want to grant them permission. Furthermore, you can manage the users whom you had granted permission to view your private area, in that you can remove them definitely or block them temporarily.

9. Managing contacts

a. Manage your contact list

When you open the "Contacts" page, you can see the members whom you’ve found interesting and the datestamps let you keep track of your relationships with other members

b. Contacts

They are users who are not classified as friends in your phonebook. In other words, they are "generic" users. (People that you don’t talk to very often and do not want to consider friends.)

It is a list of your privileged contacts. You can find these members more easily.

d. Blacklist

If you do not want to be contacted by someone anymore, you can add those contact to this list, so that you won’t get messages from these members any more and they won’t be able to invite you to chat

10. Account management

a. Is Onedate a service for payment?

It is completely free of charge for everyone to sign up for Onedate! During the registration steps, you can complete your profile, add up to four photos, fill out your private area and post a personal message. However, only users with the "woman seeking men" profile can use all of the services free of charge.
For all other users:
  • woman seeking woman
  • man seeking woman
  • man seeking man
you need to subscribe.

b. Why should I subscribe?

If you subscribe, you will have access to the most advanced services of Onedate!

With Onepass Basic, you can chat, videochat, send/reply to messages, see photos and private areas of other users.

You can add the LIGHT option to Onepass Basic or other free basic services ("women seeking man" members only) and do the following:
  • request read receipts for your e-mails;
  • access Onedate from your mobile phone directly;
  • activate absence calender;
  • navigate in "Online" or "Offline" mode;
  • choose members who can see when you are Online even if your status is set to "Offline".
  • remove profiles from your search results.


The LIGHT option is available at a charge also for members who enjoy free ONEPASS (i.e. "woman seeking man").

c. What kind of subscriptions can I choose from?

  • Onepass 6 month: 14,82 euro a month*
  • Onepass 3 month: 18,64 euro a month*
  • Onepass 1 month: 24,90 euro a month*

*Onedate suggests you to purchase the 3-month option and reminds you that the prices are VAT excluded.



The Light option costs € 6,37 per month (excluding VAT).

d. How can I pay?

You can pay by credit card.
Credit card payment: access your profile, click on "my account", choose the subscription "Onepass" you prefer and then follow the instructions. We recommend you to enter the data requested very carefully.
We accept most widely diffused credit cards (Visa, Visa Electron, Verified by Visa, Mastercard, American Express), including prepaid cards.

e. What is automatic renewal of subscription?

A couple of days before the expiry of your subscription, your pass (1, 3, 6 or 12 months) will be renewed automatically for the same period as the subscription "Onepass" that you chose when you signed up. Information on automatic renewal is widely diffused inside and outside the site. Automatic renewal is foreseen by our general conditions of use, which you can access from outside the site, during the sign-up process and after having been identified on our site.
If you have activated the LIGHT option, it will be cancelled along with the subscription and the corresponding cancellation notice period will be applied.
If you are enjoying ONEPASS free of charge ("women seeking man" members only) and activated the LIGHT option at a charge, the cancellation notice period for monthly subscriptions will be applied and the option will be renewed monthly.

f. What am I supposed to do to cancel my subscription?

You can cancel your subscription by sending us a fax to the number 0041 91 6001942, by the following deadlines: 24 hours before the expiry of the subscription in case of weekly subscription; 7 days before the expiry of the subscription in case of monthly subscription; 15 days before the expiry of the subscription in case of quarterly subscription; 30 days before the expiry of the subscription in case of semestral subscription; 60 days before the expiry of the subscription in case of annual subscription; The request to cancel your subscription must include your data (nickname, password and e-mail address) otherwise the request is void.

g. How can I cancel the LIGHT option?

If you have activated the LIGHT option, it will be cancelled along with the subscription and the corresponding cancellation notice period will be applied.
If you are member enjoying free services, you can cancel the Light option by sending a fax to the following number: 0041 91 6001942 at least 7 days before the expiry of the option.
Note: you must include your nickname, password and e-mail address, otherwise your cancellation request will be void, since we will not be able to authenticate the identity of the user.

h. I have signed up for a hour-based Onepass, and I'd like to activate the LIGHT option. What should I do?

Should the LIGHT option be activated no later than the tenth day of validity of ONEPASS, its fee will be charged immediately in addition to the subscription fee and the LIGHT option will be renewed automatically together with the subcription chosen.
In case the LIGHT option is activated after the 10th day as of the date ONEPASS was activated but before the last 7 days of its validity, its fee will be charged immediately for the period of the months still left till the expiration of ONEPASS.
If the LIGHT option is activated during the last 7 days of validity of ONEPASS, the option will be provided free of charge for the current month (maximum 7 days) and its fee will be charged in addition to the ONEPASS fee starting from the next renewal.

i. I want to cancel my Onepass. Can I keep using the LIGHT option?

No, you cannot use the Light option without activating any Onepass option.

11. E-mail services

a. What is the procedure to opt out of your mailing list?

You can opt out of our mailing list by clicking "Change Profile". By clicking "E-mail services", you can deactivate some of Onedate services. Do not forget to save changes when you are done.

12.Impolite user

a. An impolite user? Help us...

Onedate guarantees very high quality levels for its services described in the declaration of intent for commitment to honesty (no fake announcement added by Onedate, no animators, control of photos and announcements, etc). If you think that a profile might be false, click on the "fake profile" button on the lower hand side of the card to report it to us. If you receive an impolite message from a subscriber (spam, publicity, vulgar, racist statements, untruthful statements, etc.) click on the "Impolite message?" button .

13. Profile removal

a. What is the procedure to follow in order to remove my profile from Onedate?

In order to remove your profile from Onedate, click here and fill out the form. Remember that, when you remove your profile, you lose the possibility to access it again, furthermore, users with valid subscriptions lose the possibility to enjoy the remaining days of their subscription.

14. Customer Care / Troubleshooting

a. I tried to sign up, but when I press "Next", nothing happens.

You are most likely using a browser that does not support JavaScript 1.1 completely, such as MS-I.E. 3.0 or the first versions of Netscape 3.0. We suggest you to update your browser to the most recent version. Also, make sure that you have not installed the "Symanthec" firewall on your computer: it has been observed that it enters into conflict with the Onedate system. Or maybe nothing is happening, because you are using MS-I.E. version 4.0 or above or Netscape version 4.0 or above, but the JavaScript setting is disabled in its settings. You should enable Javascript and reload the sign up page.

b. I forgot my Password. What am I to do?

If you do not remember your Password anymore, you can simply click here and fill out the request form to request it, by entering the e-mail address that you provided during the sign-up process and access data.

c. What am I supposed to do if someone steals my Password?

Onedate protects your personal data in pursuance of the Privacy Law. We guarantee that it is not possible to access your profile without your Password, unless someone got in possession of it. d. Why can’t I access (login to) my profile?

First of all, make sure that you have entered your username and password correctly. If you still cannot login to the system, make sure that you have not deactivated cookies. In order to activate them, do the following:
If you are using Internet Explorer 4.0x or above, open the "View->Internet options" menu. On the "Advanced" tab, scroll the list of options until you find the one about cookies. We suggest you to select "Warn before accepting a cookie."
If you are using the English version of Netscape 4.0 or above, it will be enough to open the "Edit->Preferences..." menu, choose the "Advanced" modality and "Accept only cookies that get sent back to the originating server" + "Warn me before accepting a cookie".

e. I can’t chat. How come?

You must have "Macromedia Flash Player" installed:
the Onedate chat service has been developed using "Macromedia Flash", thus it requires you to install this free software to be used. It is already available in "Microsoft Windows" operating systems but might have been removed by mistake. If you see the spiral in the brackets, it means that the "Flash Player" is correctly installed, otherwise download it free of charge. You can check the version of your "Flash Player" from the control panel of your computer by accessing "install applications".
If you are behind a "Firewall", open the port 1935:
if you do not know what a "Firewall" is, you can ask the administrator of your network. If port 1935 is not open, you will notice it from the fact that when you try to access the chat room, you will get the following error message: "Error... Connection not found"

15. Invite friends

a. Invite friends

Clicking on the "Invite your friends" you can invite contacts in your address book on www.onedate.com.
The first step is to select the provider's mail and enter your password:

By the complete list of contacts you have the opportunity to invite them all or choose whom to invite from the list:

After clicking on the confirmation button you save the contacts whom you want to send the invitation. Within a few hours the call will be send. We remember that the selected data will be used only for that purpose and will not be disclosed to third persons.
